Overview

Make plans today to spend your Alaskan adventure at the Majestic Eagle Lodge in beautiful Southeast Alaska. We are located halfway between Juneau and Ketchikan just outside the town of Petersburg. Alaska Airlines has two flights daily into Petersburg where you will be greeted by our friendly staff. It is just a short car ride away to Papke’s Landing where we will take you by boat across the water to Kupreanof Island where the lodge is located. You will be assigned a private cabin and a boat for the duration of your stay. We do an orientation after you are settled in and try to get you on the water for fishing that afternoon. We will caravan out in front of you the first day and show you areas that may be hazardous and general areas on your map. A short fishing report is done at dinner that will let you know what the tides will be the next day as well as where and what kind of fish are being caught in the area.

We are truly excited to have you as guests of our lodge and are eager to make your adventure a dream come true. You can fish as little or as much as you want. Your trip will be self-guided and let you dictate when you will fish and what you will fish for. Salmon, Halibut, and Dungeness crab are plentiful throughout the season. Rivers provide the fly fisherman the chance to catch salmon, Dolly Varden, and Cutthroat Trout. For those wishing to charter for the day, lodge personnel can assist you with making reservations. Please call in advance as space books quickly. This is also true for whale watching in Frederick Sound, glacier tours, and the bears at Anan Creek. Majestic Eagle Lodge personnel will be happy to assist with booking additional activities.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Description

Majestic Eagle Lodge contains a large lodge building and four private cabins. Each private cabin has two sets of bunkbeds. One of these is a full sized bed for couples. They have pillow top mattresses with clean linens for each set of guests. They have a private bathroom with a glassed in shower and toilet and sink. Each has an instant hot water heater so you will not run out of hot water for showers. A small refrigerator is in each cabin so you can keep beer, soda, or snacks. Each cabin has a view of the ocean from the front porch. All cabins are connected to the lodge by boardwalks for your convenience. The lodge building contains no sleeping quarters. It has a commercial kitchen, food prep area for guests, a dining hall, game tables (pool, foosball, and air hockey), and a great room with a fireplace and direct TV. There is a large deck on the front where you can watch ships cruise by, view wildlife, or just hang out with friends. Laundry facilities and a restroom are also contained inside the lodge.

We typically have about 10-12 guests at a time as we don’t mix people in cabins or boats that don’t know each other. For family groups or work events, we can hold sixteen if all beds are full.

    Other Activities

A side trip to LeConte Glacier, the southernmost tidewater glacier on the Pacific Coast can be booked either by boat or by floatplane for an overhead view. You will see huge icebergs, multiple species of wildlife, and the beautiful mountains that surround this rugged area.

Do you enjoy seeing humpback whales in their natural surroundings?Approximately 500 of them summer in the waters of Frederick Sound and the waters that surround it.A day trip can be arranged for whale watching. You will also see many other species coming and going. Five Finger lighthouse can be spotted along the way as well as a seal rookery containing hundreds of Stellar Sea Lions. This is a photographer’s dream day.

Tours to see the bears at Anan Creek can also be arranged by lodge personnel. A jet boat picks you up at Banana Point and transports you 30 miles Southeast of Wrangell to Anan Creek where you can see black and brown bears in their natural surroundings. This is the largest pink salmon run in Southeast Alaska and attracts sea lions and bald eagles as well as the bears. The observation platform is about a 1/2 mile down a boardwalk from the boat landing and is near the falls. This is certainly another photographer’s opportunity to get some great pictures. Only 60 guests a day are allowed so make reservations early to insure a spot.

Many of our clients just enjoy a leisurely stroll around the downtown area or enjoy walking through the harbor. Petersburg is a fishing town and has many interesting boats and canneries in the area.

For those that like to hike, Petersburg has short hiking trails for the novice hiker to longer hikes to challenge experienced hikers. The scenery is beautiful and wildlife can be spotted along the way. The lodge can provide maps of these trails for clients that are interested.
