Overview

Black Gold Lodge at Rivers Inlet is the premiere sport fishing destination along British Columbia’s rugged Pacific coast. Rivers Inlet is an area known for its enormous chinook salmon—powerful sea-run Tyee—not to mention abundant coho, ling cod, snapper, and barn door halibut weighing over 150 pounds. No wonder trophy hunters from around the world specifically target these waters.

Salmon fishing at Black Gold Lodge is simply outstanding. There’s no other way to say it. Rivers Inlet, home to three major river systems, is teeming with giant chinook and fat coho, along with all other Pacific salmon species. The unique geography here stacks all the odds in your favor for the promise of an unforgettable fishing experience.

Rivers Inlet is where the majority of British Columbia’s largest salmon congregate on their way to the spawning grounds of three major river systems—and where they are actively feeding prior to the final leg of their run. Each summer, more 50 – 60 pound chinook are recorded in this 30 mile fjord than any other fishery in the province. Our location at the mouth of the Inlet gives us the best and longest period of productive fishing, making it unnecessary to travel in larger boats to find productive fishing areas.

All guests stay in comfortable, well-appointed cabins and enjoy great service from our experienced staff. In many respects, guests who visit Black Gold Lodge enjoy many of the same services as a fine hotel. The minute you arrive by seaplane, someone will escort your party to your cottage and give you a brief tour of the facilities. We will do everything we can to make you immediately comfortable and get you settled in. Before long we will deliver your beverage orders and arrange for your fishing permits.

While we pride ourselves on exceptional service, we also make it a point not to interfere with your total fishing experience. Keep your own schedule, fishing from morning through evening if you like.

    BOATS

    Description

16 or 17 ft open Logics or 17 ft Hourstoncrafts equipped with depth sounding / fish finders, radios, compass, area charts, all safety flotation and water safety necessities required by law.

We have a limited number of high-performance boat upgrades available to guests who want to maximize their fishing time with added comfort. All boats have VHF radios and are fully equipped. Ask about the availability of upgrade boats when you book your trip.

Having the right equipment can make or break a fishing trip. At Black Gold Lodge we won’t tolerate anything marginal, especially fishing gear. Our 16ft. Lund aluminum boats are comfortable and seaworthy with swivel seats and new 15 h.p. motors. These are excellent boats for slow motor mooching when targeting salmon. We outfit the boat with a 10.5ft. rod for each angler, single action mooching reel, 4 to 6 oz. ball weights, double hook leaders, and plenty of cut plug herring in salt brine: the time-honored solution for taking salmon.

If you want to target halibut, we’ll swap out your mooching tackle with a sturdy bottom rig. Salmon gills and belly strips make an extremely effective bait.
