Overview

This is a limited access wilderness where our clients fish for genetically pure wild fish with the tidal waters delivering them to our dock twice daily.  We have all five species of Pacific Salmon as well as delightful rainbow trout and other native stream fish. You will have a guide for every two clients and a very strong and stable boat to get you where you want to fish while enjoying the wilderness and wildlife.   We often fish close to the lodge so you can spend your time with your line in the water catching fish, but you are in control so we are happy to go where and when you want to go.  This adventure will be about you.  Our job is to give you the adventure you desire.

The proximity of the fishing near Alagnak Lodge means you have quick access to the lodge to refresh and relax, and a hot meal is always waiting for you between sessions. The boats can leave the dock as early as 7 AM and must return by 10:30 PM.  Within that time period, you can be in the boat and guided up to 10 hours daily.  Fishing is available right off the dock or nearby at other times. Each guide will typically take out two fishermen.

Wilderness…the Alagnak River is accessible only by float plane.

Prime location…spend more time fishing and less time traveling to the fish.

Flexible schedule…we offer a flexible schedule including evening fishing.

Fly Outs…optional fly outs give you the chance to explore wonderful fishing opportunities in the Bristol Bay watershed.

Boats…custom designed to fit the Alagnak River and fishing, and to keep you safe and comfortable on the water.

Atmosphere…an essential part of your wilderness fishing adventure, the Alagnak Lodge is a place you will feel “at home.”

Accomodations…we have several single rooms, as well as larger rooms ideal for groups.

Dining… Our three times daily meals feature high-quality ingredients professionally prepared.

What makes us unique:

  1. Fish when you want for up to 10 hours daily from morning through evening.
  2. A true wilderness - the entire Alagnak River watershed is protected as an unspoiled wilderness. Our genetically pure salmon are wild from birth to spawning.
  3. With a capacity of up to 20 clients we are large enough to accommodate extended family and business groups.
  4. The twice daily tides deliver the fresh from the saltwater fish close to our lodge.
  5. The lodge provides the up to date amenities and services you expect while remaining true to its heritage as a fishing camp. It delivers comfort and a top notch experience while maintaining an upscale fishing camp experience.

NOTES

At the Alagnak Lodge, we offer very flexible scheduling.  Trips can be any number of days and commence and end on the days of your choice.  We offer a very flexible fishing program and will customize your trip with fly outs if appropriate to match the experience you seek.  We even have an option wherein you can arrive in the late afternoon of the day before you commence fishing.  This allows many of our clients to make the incoming trip in one day and avoid a layover en route.

Longer and shorter stays are welcomed, to calculate the price for a different number of days, multiply US$750 by the number of fishing days, and add $750.

  • Each returning client receives a 5% discount.
  • Groups of 4 or more receive a 5% discount for all in the group
  • Non-fishing partners and children under 16 receive a 50% discount. This is not combined with other discounts.
  • Those fishing with 3 or more in a single boat will receive a 5% discount.

Unless otherwise stated, prices do not include taxes, gratuities, or fishing license/stamp.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Description

All clients are housed in the main lodge building. This helps fosters the interaction of all the guests and a bonding that adds to the lodge experience.  Many enduring friendships have been formed in the common rooms at the Alagnak Lodge.  The lodge has all the amenities you would expect: modern indoor plumbing, 24-hour electricity, phone and internet service and housekeeping service, including personal laundry.

Upstairs in the main lodge building we have 12 client bedrooms – 4 have a single queen size bed – 3 have a single twin bed -1 has two twin beds – 4 have three twin beds. All bedrooms have a sink with cold drinking water. There is a single toilet for light use.

Downstairs there are three full bathrooms downstairs with toilets, sinks and showers with lots of hot water. Our great room offers spectacular views of the river and is a great place to dine, relax, share fish stories with others, or take advantage of our well-stocked fly-tying bench. We also have separate small rooms to view videos, play cards or have quiet time alone. We even have a steam hut outside for those so inclined.

The support tents and structures house the staff accommodations, generators, workshop, storage, laundry and boat motors. On the river, we have a polyethylene EZ Dock that is stable, safe and environmentally friendly. This connects by a ramp to the standing dock with its 48 steps and cargo cart to the lodge plateau.

Amenities

After a long day on the river and a hearty meal, there’s no better way to spend the evening than to relax in our Alaskan steam room.

Meals

The dining is one of the highlights of the Alagnak Lodge experience. Top quality ingredients are expertly prepared and presented buffet style so each guest is able to take as little or as much of each dish as they like.

We serve a variety of wholesome and delicious dishes expertly prepared by professional chefs. Freshly baked goods are available at the meals and as snacks throughout the day. All meals are served on time so we can maintain our fishing schedules.

The lodge kitchen is a professional kitchen and meeting all health standards is a priority. While we do have a set rotating menu through the week, we can always meet individual needs and special requests. We do small batch food preparations so we can offer a wider variety of food offerings.

Other Activities

As well as the opportunities for sight seeing and photography on the Alagnak, we are also nearby to the world-famous Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park, which can be accessed by fly out from the lodge.

Plane reservations

  • To get to the lodge, you will need to travel to Anchorage, Alaska, (ANC) and then to southwest Alaska’s regional airport in the town of King Salmon (AKN). There are no direct flights from outside Alaska directly to King Salmon.  The ANC to AKN flight takes about 1 hour and the cost of each leg varies from $175 to $300.
  • Ravn Air (fka PenAir) provides several round-trip turboprop flights between ANC and AKN each morning, afternoon and evening. Alaska Airlines provides a daily round-trip 737 flight on this route in the middle afternoon from early June through mid-August.
  • Online reservations can be made on the Alaska Airline website as they code-share with Ravn Air and market all flights between ANC and AKN.
  • The timing of flights is important
    • Early morning flights to AKN are often delayed due to adverse weather.  Mid to late morning flights are more dependable.  If you wish to fish on your arrival day, you need to arrive in King Salmon before noon.
    • Flights to ANC from AKN should be scheduled to depart from mid-afternoon onward.  Never schedule a morning flight, too much has to go right for you to make it.  If you are at the airport early, Ravn Air often will allow an early departure at no extra fee if they have space available.
  • Once you arrive at the AKN airport and until you are returned to the AKN airport for your return to ANC, you are covered by our package pricing.  You will be met at the airport by our flying service, Branch River Air.  More on this below.

Branch River Air

  • Once you arrive at the King Salmon airport you will be met by our flying service, Branch River Air (BRA)  (907-246-3437).
  • They usually allow you to make quick purchases at the local general store, then drive you to the BRA river office and dock.
  • Once all the incoming passengers are assembled and a floatplane is available, you will be flown 25 miles north to the Alagnak Lodge dock.
  • The flight time is about 25 minutes in the air plus the time to taxi on the water at both ends.

Same day flights to the lodge

At times we can accommodate a client arrival the day before fishing commences.

  • We must first have rooms available for this purpose.
  • The client must arrive at the AKN airport prior to 18:00 (6 pm).
  • $175 is the charge for this service and it includes lodging plus supper and breakfast.
  • This early arrival program is offered to allow clients to limit their travel to one day and avoid an overnight stopover in Anchorage or King Salmon. It also helps avoid weather and floatplane delays.

Hotel Reservations

  • Overnight accommodations in King Salmon and Naknek are limited.
  • An overnight stay in Anchorage is often the better choice.
  • We do not recommend a specific hotel; we recommend an internet search to find the best value hotel with a shuttle service.
  • We do recommend you reserve well in advance.  Finding accommodations at the last minute can be difficult.
