Details

The earlier you can make your plane reservation is usually beneficial for both scheduling and price.

You will need to be in Dillingham by 2:30 PM on the arrival day to catch either the 3:00 PM or 4:00 PM float plane to camp. Your return to Anchorage should be scheduled after 5:30 or 6:00 PM as the float plane schedule returning arrives at Dillingham around 4:00 and 5:00 PM on the day of departure. Please allow for a short variance in this schedule but it is usually pretty punctual.

Should for any reason you decide to spend the night in Dillingham we have provided a list with the various Bed & Breakfast & Hotels (Click HERE). Dillingham is a small regional hub to the Villages of Southwestern Alaska and does not have a lot of the amenities you may be use to. It is a very interesting place as it serves as both a supply station to the Villages and a hub to the commercial salmon fishing industry and is modern day reflection of that lifestyle.

The area population is mostly Yup’ik Eskimo and other than in Dillingham proper is still predominately a subsistence lifestyle that has been practiced for untold generations. Traditionally, families spend the summer at fish camps catching and drying salmon, then join with others at Village sites for the winter. Most families still rely on the harvest of the traditional subsistence resources of the area especially Salmon. As you fly into camp you will fly over one of these summer camps. The river patrolmen that you will meet during your visit spent their entire youth fishing in these summer camps.

For the Anchorage to Dillingham leg please see Penn Air and Alaska Air for schedules.

Penn Air is a commuter line to the Villages flying Turbo prop SAAB’s.
Alaska Air fly Jets so if you are more comfortable on a jet that is a consideration. You can also use your Airline Miles through Alaska Air.

They usually add more flights as summer approaches but it is probably not prudent to wait.

Alaska Airlines also books for Penn Air so you may want to check prices at both sites.
