Overview

Discover one of the few remaining uncrowded and unspoiled regions in the world when you visit the remote islands of Haida Gwaii, British Columbia, Canada. The pristine and remote islands lie just south of the Alaska Panhandle and rest on the western edge of the continental shelf. They are legendary for their rich First Nations Haida native culture.

At QCS, we’re all about the experience you and your loved ones have. We strive to give you memories you will cherish forever. This is what makes us so special. Our staff shares this dedication. Personal attention and commitment is our motto.

This is why we have a smaller, more intimate lodge. It’s why our customers become our friends and family. We are passionate about what we do and we want to be more than just a fishing lodge. We want to be your home away from home. We guarantee you’ll catch fish—most of our customers catch between 10-15 fish per visit. But more than that, we promise to do our best to make this an experience you’ll remember for the rest of your life.

Haida Gwaii, (formerly the Queen Charlotte Islands) is renowned as the most successful salmon fishing destination in the world. Why? Haida Gwaii is comprised of over 150 islands providing rich feeding grounds that essentially force every salmon in the Pacific Northwest into a feeding frenzy before they continue on their migration. The result is virtually no down time in-between runs.

What does this mean? It means that we have salmon all season long and no down time catching fish, they’re always passing through. This truly is the longest and largest salmon run in the world. These are fresh, healthy salmon that are transitory; not spawning and at the end of their life cycle.

British Columbia allows you to take more fish home and catch more fish per person than any area on the West Coast including Alaska. No one does it better than Queen Charlotte Safaris! Come experience world class King Salmon fishing like you’ve never seen before.

What makes us unique:

  1. Longer Chinook salmon season
  2. Less crowded
  3. Fish for more species
  4. Halibut Fishing
  5. Coho salmon

Queen Charlotte Safaris Lodge is different from destinations who operate year-round. Our season is only a short three months long and we have a limited number of guests that can be booked to maintain the uniqueness of our Haida Gwaii experience. We incur expenses related to your trip that do not go away if you cancel, not to mention the income lost that we have no way of making up unless we can re-book your trip. If you cancel your trip for even the most legitimate reasons we are impacted economically. For those reasons and others, if you cancel and we cannot re-book those dates, we cannot give you a refund. If we can re-book your trip, we will refund your payment, less a 20% cancellation fee for expenses to Queen Charlotte Safaris that cannot be recovered.

Ratings and Reviews

“I have fished and filmed all over British Columbia and Alaska. I have not found fishing to be better anywhere than the west side of the Queen Charlotte Islands. This archipelago of more than 150 islands is phenomenal for Chinook “King” Salmon, Giant Pacific Halibut, Ling Cod and Yelloweye Rockfish.

Valerie and her crew are the perfect hosts. Queen Charlotte Safaris Lodge is very close to the greatest sportfishing on the globe. The ride through the Skidegate Narrows on the way to the “west side” is breathtaking. We often see deer, whales, porpoise, eagles, bears and sea lions along the way. This, combined with the majestic beauty of the Queen Charlottes is awesome. I have often said the ride through the Narrows alone is worth the price of admission.

My wife and I have also taken our daughters, their husbands and our grand children to Queen Charlotte Safaris. Along with the very best sportfishing, there are many other things to see and do in the Charlottes. The ecotourism is unbelievable. On our last few trips we have toured Graham Island and visited Queen Charlotte City, Tlell, Port Clemens, and Massett at the very north head of the Island. What beautiful sights, friendly people and so much fun. Visiting the brand new Haida Heritage Centre is now a must on all of our visits to Queen Charlotte Safaris Lodge.

For a lot of reasons, I highly recommend Queen Charlotte Safaris, Sandspit, British Columbia.”

“If you are looking for a world class fishing adventure, I recommend, and without hesitation or reservation, Queen Charlotte Safaris. QCS is a family oriented lodge located in the Haidi Gwaii (the Former Queen Charlotte Islands), British Columbia. I have fished many other lodges in Canada and Alaska, and QCS, bar none, remains at the top of my list. I just completed my fifteenth year fishing in Cartright Sound as a QCS guest. Valerie and her staff will stop at nothing to make your stay at QCS the memory of a lifetime. Valerie can control everything except the weather and the fishing, and as to the latter, the fish are always there. Even when the weather (read wind) is tough, the guides can put you into wind sheltered inlets. You will catch fish.”

Stu Holmes, Claremont, CA.

“Queen Charlotte Safaris is a special place; from the incredible fishing, to the cozy and welcoming feel of the lodge serving delicious meals, to meeting new people. Located on the Queen Charlotte Islands: an unbelievable adventure in itself! The overall experience is so powerful that it has brought us back 10 years (Art) and 6 years (Donna – started later)!”

Art Pearce and Donna Lenherr Kinney

“Queen Charlotte Safaris is a great place to relax and be totally taken care of while you fish for some of the worlds best Salmon, Halibut, and Lingcod. If you like to be outdoors and ocean fishing it’s the best deal out there! The lodge is comfortable fun and the food is great. The staff work really hard to make your time enjoyable and you cannot beat the calm, clean, natural, isolation of Haida Gwaii Island. I can’t wait to go again!”

Jaime Glimp, Buellton, CA

“I can’t say enough about the wonderful adventures I have had over the past few years with the Queen Charlotte Safaris organization on the Queen Charlotte Islands in Canada. The whole package which includes the Salmon and Halibut fishing, seeing the wild life such as the whales – eagles – bears – deer – and the beauty of the trees and mountains are totally second to none. The lodge accommodations and the food is all 5 Star. I promise to return each and every year together with family and friends for more great adventures.”

Al O’Brien, Tuscon, AZ

“Year after year we choose to return to Queen Charlotte Safaris because of the success we have each and every year. Valerie and her staff are so much a part of our wonderful outdoor experience that they seem like family to us. It feels like a family reunion for us each time we return. The accommodations are excellent and the food, without question, is fit for a “King”. I have been fishing the West Coast of British Columbia for many years and know that the areas we fish with Queen Charlotte Safaris are among the most beautiful and productive anywhere on the West Coast. We are treated to the thrilling catch of Tyee Salmon, Coho Salmon, Cod, Snapper, and Halibut. Their boats are well maintained and captained by very helpful, knowledgeable and experienced West Coast Fishermen with excellent tackle for landing the big one! I would recommend Queen Charlotte Safaris to any fisherman, from the beginner to the most seasoned angler. Good Luck and may all your lines be tight lines.”

Bruce W Leavitt, Burnaby, BC

“Three fishing vacations at Valerie’s Queen Charlotte Safaris have convinced me that EVERYONE should experience this first-class lodge at least once. Valerie is hospitable, organized and smart. The lodge is run like a family resort—warm, friendly and welcoming. Staff is superb; rooms are cabin-like and comfortable. The food is prepared by graduate chefs making each meal an adventure. And you can’t beat the company of bald eagles perched in the trees outside the lodge. Fishing boats are first rate with skilled skippers, first class tackle and personal attention and who can argue with return baggage of 150 lbs of gorgeous salmon, halibut, cod and snapper? Valerie is the best!”

Hanne Mintz, Los Angeles, CA

“Valerie owns and operates a Fishing Resort Experience that I recommend to add to your Bucket List! The experience is of Number One Quality from the minute the vacation is booked. Valerie pays attention to every detail and all one needs to do is sit back relax and enjoy the fun!”

Kathleen Rankin, Boise, ID

“For our wedding anniversary, Dennis and I were going to go to Hawaii until we were talking to Valerie in Las Vegas at her booth for QCS. Her excitement about the fishing safari won us over…we dropped our plans for Hawaii…and we are so glad we did. The experience fishing with QCS was amazing. Valerie and her Director of Sales & Marketing, Sharyl ensured our trip was the best ever, making sure every accommodation was perfect, and it was. In fact, we got to fish with Sharyl and her fiancee Dan…Sharyl and I are now known for the ‘Fish Dance’. Additionally, the staff at QCS are professional and friendly…couldn’t have had it any better. We highly recommend everyone to experience fishing with QCS…we will definitely do it again. Thank you Valerie, we love you!”
