Overview

Overlooking the spectacular view of the Bay and pristine Wolverine Creek, Yes Bay Lodge is nestled in the heart of The Tongass National Forest, the largest temperate rain forest on Earth. For over 40 years, the Hack family has been welcoming guests to Yes Bay Lodge. Setting us apart from most fishing resorts in the state, Yes Bay Lodge is able to offer guests a wide range of saltwater and freshwater fishing, due to its unique location. The myriad of lakes, streams and rivers located within a short distance of the lodge offer some of the finest freshwater fishing available in Southeast Alaska, while the saltwater fishing is world-class.

The fishing around Yes Bay Lodge has been defined as an almost religious experience! Yes Bay sits in a very unique location with boat rides to prime fishing spots around 20-25 minutes at the most. Sometimes the best spot is right at the mouth of the Bay, less than a 10-minute ride away. Your professional guide will know what species are running and where to give you the most opportunity to get your limit. We are also the only Alaska lodge that features two to four anglers per private boat, assuring you the personal attention that Yes Bay Lodge is famous for!

What makes us unique:

  1. A true "Family" atmosphere at the lodge - Yes Bay is a friendly, family-style lodge, where you are more like guests in a private home rather than a guest in a large, cold hotel. Kids are welcome at Yes Bay and will surely enjoy the Yes Bay experience.
  2. Yes Bay is the only lodge in the SE that fishes 2-4 anglers per private boat with the personal attention that Yes Bay sets the standard for.
  3. Location - Yes Bay is located in one of the most abundant fishing grounds in Alaska. Waters protected by barrier islands offer the protection from rough seas, so the fishing is comfortable in even the worst weather that Alaska can provide. It is a rare day when it is too rough to go fishing!
  4. The Yes Bay Dining Experience must be enjoyed to understand how wonderful it really is.
  5. The View - If you had all of Alaska to choose from, you would have a hard time finding a more ideal location for a fishing lodge.

Meals

Your Yes Bay Dining Experience begins each evening in the lounge with our famous appetizer buffet and happy hour! The presentation varies each evening but is sure to include such signature items as fresh Alaska shrimp, Hot Crab Cakes, Fresh Smoked Salmon, Hot Crab Dip, Wild Alaska Crab Deviled Eggs and various cheeses and vegetables.

After enjoying the appetizers you will soon be invited to your dining table to enjoy one of our many signature dinner selections, such as Dynamite Halibut, Fresh Grilled Salmon, Steak and Dungeness Crab, and always a wonderful fresh garden salad.

Make sure you save room for a fresh baked dessert, everything from fresh Strawberry Cheesecake, fresh from our garden Rhubarb Pie, or the ever popular Crème brûlée.

The desserts always make a fine finish to your day at Yes Bay!

Dinner isn’t the only meal that Yes Bay Lodge prides itself in. Our hot lunches and fresh made soups and sandwiches are also an experience. You have not lived until you have enjoyed a fresh smoked salmon omelet to start your day of fishing!

Other Activities

For the hiking enthusiast, there are physically challenging trails throughout the rainforest surrounding the lodge. Guided hikes lead to McDonald Lake, traveling along Wolverine Creek. Take a kayak out to explore the back of Yes Bay. There are boat rides available to Bailey Bay, Shrimp Bay, Orchard Lake and Lake Shelokum, as well as the Neets Bay Hatchery where you can have an opportunity to view both brown and black bears. Yes Bay Lodge can also arrange flight tours where you may also visit the bear observatory at Anan Creek, take a floatplane tour of the Misty Fjords National Monument, or fly out to one of the many freshwater lakes or rivers for some awesome freshwater fishing.

BOATS

Description

For decades, Yes Bay Lodge has used custom-built, canopy-covered Olympic boats. At twenty feet in length and powered by 90 HP Yamaha four strokes, they were designed for two-angler comfort and fishing efficiency. In 2014 we started replacing our fleet of Olympics with custom-built Silver Streaks, which are aluminum, hardtop boats for your fishing comfort. They are the ultimate 2-3 person fishing machine.

By popular demand, Yes Bay Lodge also has three four-angler vessels in the fleet. In 2008, the lodge added a beautiful 27-foot Boston Whaler. Powered by twin 250 HP Yamaha outboards, it can get you to the fishing grounds in a hurry and in comfort. In 2021, a 26-foot Hewescraft joined the fleet, and it was such a hit with guests that we added another in 2022. These boats are designed to fish up to four anglers and can carry up to six people for sightseeing trips. They are great for families with children, as well.

Your guide will be featuring Lamiglas rods and smooth, dependable Penn reels for trolling. Stout Ugly Stick halibut rods and Penn reels are the tools you’ll use for large bottom fish. You also have the option of setting traps for Dungeness Crab and Alaskan Spot Prawns, which you may either pack home or have prepared as an extra course with dinner (we recommend both!). With only 2-4 anglers per private boat, your captain will tailor your trip to assure your ideal fishing adventure.

Details

You should arrange your flights on Alaska Airlines into Ketchikan, typically through Seattle. We recommend that you plan your arrival and departure flights for midday, with as much flexibility as possible. This will allow you to easily connect with our floatplane for the quick 30-minute flight to the lodge. Departure flights from Ketchikan begin with the morning 9 a.m. flight, which works well for most of the season. In September, however, you will need to take a later flight from Ketchikan, as there is not enough daylight for a 6 a.m. departure from the lodge on our floatplane, and weather can often be a hinderance, as well.
