Overview

Welcome to the Kenai Riverside Fishing program at Kenai Riverside Lodge, your destination for incredible Alaska fishing experiences. Kenai Riverside Fishing is part of Alaska Wildland Adventures, a long-time operator of guided fishing trips since 1977. Our trips explore the world-famous Kenai River for freshwater species, like king and sockeye salmon, rainbow trout and Dolly Varden. We also fish Resurrection Bay for halibut and silver salmon. Whether you are a seasoned angler or a first time fisherman, we’ll put you on the fish!

Flexible Fishing Options and Activities
Our itineraries are flexible to accommodate the needs and interests of your group or family. From groups that are 100% focused on fishing to those who want to mix in other activities such as hiking, sightseeing, or rafting, we can create an itinerary to match the interests of everyone in your party. Review our sample itineraries to get ideas on trips for non-fishing family members or friends, organize a special group fishing trip, or ask us to create a custom itinerary to meet your needs.

Knowledgeable Guides & Excellent Fishing Opportunities
Our guides are friendly, knowledgeable, and will outfit you with only top-quality fishing equipment and gear. The banks of the upper Kenai River offer productive fishing for sockeye salmon, silver salmon, rainbow trout and Dolly Varden. Fishing the lower Kenai River offers the ultimate Alaska sportfishing challenge: the chase for the world’s largest Alaska king salmon or hard-fighting silver salmon, depending upon the season. Fishing for halibut and silver salmon in Resurrection Bay out of Seward is an awesome salt-water fishing experience with incredible scenery and wildlife viewing as a bonus.

Our newly renovated log lodge is the perfect place to enjoy a fine meal and trade stories at the day’s end. Eight guest cabins surround the main lodge, each exhibiting the rustic charm of an Alaskan pioneer cabin (as well as the modern comforts of heat, electricity and a private bath). Only a few paces away from your cabin door, you’ll find the upper Kenai River — the best in sockeye salmon, silver salmon, rainbow trout and Dolly Varden fishing.

In addition to trophy fishing with our expert guides, enjoy hearty home cooking with a gourmet flair in our dining room and relax with a pint of Alaska micro brew or a glass of wine in our lounge. After dinner, many guests gather on the spacious riverside deck to trade fishing tales or relax in the wood-fired sauna. As always, our staff strives to make your Alaska fishing vacation the trip of a lifetime.

What makes us unique:

Alaska State Fish and Game Bag Limits

Alaska Wildland Adventures and Kenai Riverside Fishing strictly adhere to all regulations pertaining to restrictions, harvest, and catch and release limits of all fish species as mandated by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. From time to time, we may establish even stricter company policies with regard to catch limits and catch and release if it is deemed to follow best practices for the continued sustainability of certain species. In these situations, company policy shall supersede state regulations, and these policies may be implemented at any time, even during the course of the current season, depending upon the species and the situation.

We believe this approach is in the best interest of the conservation and perpetuation of Alaska’s fish populations and the surrounding ecosystem upon which fish species depend. Upon booking a fishing trip with us, you agree to comply with these policies.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Description

At Kenai Riverside Lodge, you’ll stay in one of our eight log cabins nestled in the trees surrounding our main lodge building. In accord with our natural riverside setting, each of the cabins exhibits the rustic charm of historical Alaskan pioneer cabins, only with the addition of a few modern day creature comforts like heat, electric lights, private bath and comfy beds. Adirondack chairs await you on your front porch to relax in while you take in the sounds of the Kenai River under the midnight sun. We have purposefully opted not to have TVs, phones or Internet connection in your cabins. You will, however, experience a strong connection to the natural world around you!

Our cozy cabins accommodate up to four people, but our guests tell us they are most comfortable with two in a cabin. With such spectacular scenery awaiting outside, most of our guests find that they spend more time out of their cabins than in; you’ll want to step out to enjoy our location on the banks of the beautiful Kenai River.

Meals

At Kenai Riverside Lodge, we take great pride in the food that we serve. Our chefs return year after year, and they put time and love into every meal. We also go to great lengths to accommodate specific dietary needs and food allergies. Food is an integral part of your vacation experience, and we work hard to ensure it’s a phenomenal one!

Each morning, you’ll wake up to a hot breakfast buffet before heading out on the water. You might walk in to the aroma of hot blueberry pancakes, bacon, fresh fruit, coffee and tea.

Your made-to-order lunch will already be on the boat – if you can break from fishing long enough to eat! Your guide will meet you in the lodge for breakfast and soon you’ll be gearing up for a nice day on the water. No need to worry about having enough coffee for these early mornings, your boat comes fully equipped with coffee, juice and other soft drinks, plus plenty of snacks for the rest of the day.

In the evening you’ll come home to a four-course meal, served family-style in our lodge. Share stories about the day over a glass of wine or Alaskan micro-brew beer. After dinner, spend time on the riverside deck over a campfire or have another glass at our bar!

    Other Activities

At Kenai Riverside Lodge, you are our guest and we want you to be comfortable. We want you to put your feet up. We want you to be in full vacation mode. To us, this means having plenty of space to enjoy meals, relax and take in the peace of the Kenai River and this great setting.

If the fish didn’t tire you out, you might strike up a game or two in the evening to complete your day. Feel free to use the lodge equipment for your game of choice:

    • Volleyball
    • Badminton
    • Horseshoes
    • Basketball
    • Ping pong

If, on the other hand, you prefer to preserve your energy for the next day of fishing, we encourage you to enjoy some lounge time on our large riverside deck. Guests have seen moose and bald eagles while lazing on the deck. Let us know if you’d like to use the wood-fired sauna and we’ll get it ready. If you play cards, you might gravitate toward the natural history lounge for an evening game. Maybe you’d rather stretch your legs on our self-guided nature trail or relax by the group campfire while talking about the ones that didn’t get away.

Many guests choose non-fishing activities as well, such as guided hiking or scenic rafting. Please ask for details and we’ll talk over your ideas and help plan for those in your traveling party that may not share the same affinity for Alaska sportfishing.

    BOATS

    Description

Drift Boats – Many anglers consider drift boats to be the ultimate river craft. We feature 18-foot models custom designed for the Kenai River that fish up to four anglers. These boats are the best for accessing the “drift-only” waters of the upper Kenai.

Power Boats – We fish from custom 26-foot open hull Willie Nemesis boatsfor ocean trips and 20-foot Willie Predator boats on the lower Kenai.

Our boats comfortably fit up to four anglers. However, if you prefer a more intimate fishing experience, we are happy to accommodate a private boat, based on availability and at an additional cost.

Your package includes round trip transportation from Anchorage to Kenai Riverside Lodge. We’ll pick you up in the afternoon on your arrival day and bring you to the lodge. On your departure day, join us for breakfast and then we’ll bring you back to Anchorage by noon. Please keep in mind that these are the only shuttles included with your package. Occasionally, we are able to arrange for a special pick up or departure at an additional cost.

Weather in Alaska can be unpredictable, and adequate outdoor clothing is essential for your stay with us. Generally, daytime temperatures range from the 50’s to the 70’s with some days reaching into the 80’s. Traditionally, July has the warmest weather; however, Alaskan weather changes often and can quickly go from sunny and warm to wet and cold during any month of the season. There is a chance of freezing temperatures in early June and September. “Plan ahead and prepare” is a good motto to follow!

The best way to dress for a fishing trip in Alaska is in layers. Polypro, capilene or wool all keep you warm even when wet and are excellent first and second layers. Always have rain gear with you even if it’s clear and sunny in the morning. Please bring enough wool or synthetic socks for your entire lodge stay. Though cotton socks are fine for around the lodge, you’ll want to avoid wearing anything cotton while fishing. Please note that laundry facilities are not available at the lodge.
