Overview

Kluane Wilderness Lodge, the only commercial operation on Wellesley Lake lies in the land of the Midnight Sun, Canada’s Yukon. This quality managed fishery makes it one of the world’s premier Lake Trout destinations.

Lakers over 50 pounds will make your dreams come true. Take 24 hours of sun and fishing time during June and July plus the Aurora Borealis most commonly known as the Northern Lights in August and September create a true angling paradise.

Kluane Wilderness Lodge is truly in the last frontier with the nearest neighbor or road 80 miles away, it’s the way that the wilderness is suppose to be. You can even be here for a whole week and not even see a plane fly over and if one does, you have to wonder if they are lost.

Located 200 air miles northwest of Whitehorse in Canada’s Yukon Territory, Wellesley Lake is without a doubt the world’s finest Lake Trout lake and has a prolific Pike population up to 50 inches. Wellesley is classed as the number one trophy Lake Trout lake in Canada by Field and Stream Magazine. Operated on a catch and release, single barbless hook policy for more than 23 years, this fertile lake keeps producing record catches like no other body of water on the continent. You can jig for them…cast for them…toss flies for them or …troll artificials for them. Except for a small section of reef near the lodge there are no hazards to hit unlike other lakes in the north. It is nearly impossible to get lost on the lake and you come and go as you like.

Average Lake Trout at Kluane weigh in at better than 15 pounds, 40 pounders seldom raise an eyebrow and there’s more than enough 50 pound plus fish to wear you out. From the pros to the novice, anyone can catch fish and all do. Along with the added advantage of not having to have a guide with you, you can fish around the clock if you so desire.

What makes us unique:

  1. Wellesley is classed as the number one trophy Lake Trout lake in Canada by Field and Stream Magazine.

Other Activities

Wildlife viewing both around the lodge and lake shore. Moose, bears, wolves, common loons, arctic loons, trumpeter swans, ducks and geese can all be seen. An evening of cruising around the lake can be a great time for the camera enthusiast or if you just want to take a brake from the days fishing.

Hiking around the lodge to the old homestead or old trappers cabin is just a short walk and a great way to get some exercise after setting in the boat all day. For the more adventurous, a hike up the mountain will give you a spectacular view of the lake and surrounding area. Almost always moose can be spotted in one of the many meadows behind the lake.

A relaxing evening in the hot tub with a glass of wine and an incredible view of the lake, St. Ellis Range and sunset maybe what you need.

For you golfers try out your skills at our very unique driving range.

The camp fire is always going in the evenings were many stories and jokes are told. You may even want to bring back the memories of being a kid again and toast a marshmallow or roast a hot dog over the open fire.
