Overview

Our fishing resort is located in an area of coastal wilderness that seems to have defied the passage of time. Kyuquot Sound (pronounced ‘kai-you-cut’), consists of hundreds of islands, inlets, vast stretches of uninhabited coastline and a diverse population of wildlife. Surrounding the area are mist-covered peaks that make you think that you have travelled back to the beginning of time.

Framed within this pristine natural splendor is Walters Cove Resort, an internationally renowned sport fishing destination, known for its incomparable hospitality, luxurious setting, and high intensity fishing. Walters Cove is a remote destination, only accessible by boat or seaplane. Every year, guests come from all corners of the globe to fish and take in this coastal paradise.

At Walters Cove Resort, our guides are expert fishermen with a wealth of local knowledge and experience. Their insight into these waters comes from family traditions that have been passed down for millennia. This knowledge extends to bottom fishing for halibut, lingcod and rockfish, as well as trolling for salmon.

What makes us unique:

  1. Not your everyday fishing trip. We are owned by theKa:'yu:'k't'h'/Che:k'tles7et'h' First Nations and provide an element of local culture to your experience including our signature traditional Salmon BBQ.
  2. One of the only remaining, relatively untapped, accessible saltwater fishing meccas along the west coast of North America, Kyuquot is world famous for its productive salmon, halibut and bottom fishing. A newly discovered opportunity is also developing for albacore tuna!
  3. With a staff to guest ratio of almost 1:1, the service provided at Walters Cove Resort is exceptional. Our professional staff are trained to anticipate and deliver your needs and exceed your expectations.
  4. We offer drive-in, fly-in or "bring your own boat" packages

ACCOMMODATIONS

Description

New for 2022, Walters Cove Resort is now a floating facility that was originally built in 2000 and was previously operated at Englefield Bay by West Coast Resorts.  Recently renovated, our lodge has 15 deluxe guest rooms with ensuite bathrooms, a spacious dining room and 2 large outdoor patios that’s perfect for unwinding and swapping fish stories. The lodge’s vaulted ceilings and cedar accents give you the impression that you’ve travelled back to another era.

One of the differences of Walters Cove Resort is our service. We offer an incredible 1:1 staff-to-guest ratio so, needless to say, we are fully prepared to cater to your every need.

When you dine with us you can expect gourmet meals prepared by a talented chef using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients.

Between dining inside looking over the harbour, enjoying one of our spectacular beach barbecues, or having your picnic lunch at sea while you’re fishing, we are sure you will be impressed with our culinary offerings. We have a full bar and wine list available; as well as a selection of non-alcoholic beverages.

Here at Walters Cove Resort we’re happy to cater to any dietary requests, such as gluten free or vegetarian diets.

Our administrative office is located in Campbell River.

Meals

We know that while fishing is the main reason you come to see us, the whole experience of your stay is equally important and a large component of that is the quality of the food. A full breakfast buffet, homemade soups, comfort food lunches at the lodge, packed lunches for the boat, freshly baked snacks, fresh fruit and munchies all are offered to keep you going throughout the day. After working up an appetite during a day’s fishing, come back to the lodge and enjoy a selection of appetizers while winding down and relaxing before a delicious 3 course gourmet dinner. Prepared with the finest ingredients, our signature dishes offer combinations of local seafood, hearty meats and fresh vegetables prepared in a variety of styles to suit anyone’s tastes. One evening during your stay, experience some of the local culture by savoring a butterflied salmon traditionally cooked with cedar over an open fire. It’s something you will never forget!

Other Activities

In Kyuquot Sound some our neighbours include sea otters, humpback, minke and grey whales, orcas, dolphins, porpoises, sea lions, eagles, seals, puffins, cougars, bears, elk and black tail deer—just to name a few. So, if wildlife watching is what you’re up for, we can make it happen. We can also arrange cultural tours, which will introduce you to totem poles, old village sites and ancient middens. At any time, you’re welcome to take a take a picnic and go beach combing along Rugged Point and the surrounding areas. Things to watch for are Japanese fishing floats and other items that have made their way across the Pacific Ocean from Asia. We also have kayaks and paddleboards for use and if you’re up for a little surfing, we can arrange it with a little bit of advanced notice.
