Overview

Welcome to great fishing in the Iliamna/Bristol Bay region, the center piece of Alaska’s fishing treasure. Not only are we located in the heart of Alaska’s prime fishing waters, our central goal is to provide you the opportunity to enjoy the most remote, personalized, and affordable experience possible (because sport fishing, in the first place, is the experience.) If you envision clear water, pristine vistas devoid of crowds and human encroachment; streams, rivers and coastlines with abundant wildlife; and above all, great fishing; then we want the opportunity to serve you.

Our facilities are located where access to the fishing is as logistically uncomplicated as possible and the ambiance lacks the metropolitan feeling of locations such as a downtown motel or neighborhood. This trip is truly for those wishing to temporarily leave civilization behind while still enjoying the comforts of home. Though nestled in the mountains of the Chigmet range, the main lodge boasts indoor plumbing in each guest room, full time electricity, satellite internet, carpeted floors and lots of room. Each guest room has its own bathroom, and the weekly roster is normally a maximum of eight people in double and single occupancy rooms.

Charters, fly outs, and guided fishing are not extra charges here! Even the charter flights between the lodge and Anchorage are included in the price of the trip. We won’t rent you a boat and leave you on your own in brown bear country. We ask that you bring your own waders, personal effects and liquor (if desired). Everything else is provided or can be reserved. We politely ask you to compare the value we provide against others offering the same or similar services in the Alaskan Bush. Our lodge is family owned and operated by local Alaskans with generations of experience in the northwestern fishing and guiding industry. Not only is it our desire to provide you with the best fishing experience possible, we also want you to become lifelong friends willing to refer our services to others with whom you associate. Return customers are the majority of our business and your name deserves to be on our guest list!

Freshwater Fishing

If Alaska is the royalty of fishing, surely its crown jewel is the Lake Iliamna/Bristol bay area. World renown for both size and abundance of its trout, Lake Iliamna and Katmai National park are second to none. The beauty and remote nature of the lake and its surroundings are an added bonus that increases the pleasure of the fishing experience (because after all; fishing IS the experience, so why settle for anything less!)

The waters of Bristol Bay provide plenty of habitats for all 5 species of Pacific Salmon. The Kvichak and Nushagak rivers are two of the Bay’s major drainages with King and Silver Salmon that are, today, unmatched in run strength. One of Alaska’s hidden treasures just waiting for an arm tiring day playing fish after fish. Unlike the Kenai, King Salmon on the Nushagak can be fished catch and release, which means we keep right on fishing after you have your limit. No watching others fish just because you decided to keep a paltry limit of one fish here.

Ocean Charters

For Halibut fishermen, Alaska’s most productive waters have been in or around Cook Inlet. Unlike Southeast Alaska, the Cook Inlet catch limits remain 2 fish in possession. If you are a saltwater enthusiast, the charter boat fishing we offer is your chance to land a big halibut, Salmon or cod.

As an added bonus, the marine environment is a unique blend of scenic beauty and exotic wildlife that appeals to landlubbers as well as seasoned mariners. You can see whales, dolphins, seals, sea otter, and a wide array of shore birds including the puffin (native only to northern waters.)

What makes us unique:

  1. Great fishing in a remote, pristine and beautiful setting.

All trips will start and end in Anchorage, Alaska where you will fly with Lake Clark Air from Merrill Field to Pedro Bay, Alaska–the closest airstrip and village to our lodge. LAKE CLARK AIR, (907) 278-2054, serves the Iliamna area with daily flights and they have an excellent safety record. There is a 50 pound baggage restriction because of the increased baggage load on the return trip due to transporting fish back to the states. PLEASE PACK LIGHTLY! Guth’s Lodge at Iliamna River is not responsible for flight delays due to weather or scheduling.
