Overview

Whaler’s Cove Lodge is located on Killisnoo Island just a few miles from the village of Angoon on the western side of Admiralty Island. Our calm waters are a hundred miles by water from any large towns, so we enjoy wilderness adventures without any crowds. At Whaler’s Cove Lodge, you will enjoy the best that Alaska has to offer!

Whaler’s Cove Lodge is a remote all-inclusive fishing and eco-adventure destination catering to 48 guests at a time. Our daily trips are designed around small groups – 3 to 6 people per guide/boat. We do this to ensure a great personal experience with everything Alaska has to offer. Our space is limited and bookings run 12 to 24 months in advance.

Our waters are a hundred miles from any other towns, so we enjoy wilderness fishing without day traffic pressure from commercial and sport fleets. You won’t find boats or planes from other lodges anchored where you want to fish. We enjoy productive fishing only 10-30 minutes from our dock, avoiding long boat rides. Calm waters, created by the sheltered weather effect of nearby islands, adds to the pleasure of fishing at Whaler’s Cove Lodge.

Within 1 hour of our lodge, via our 22′ Boulton Freshwater Guide Boats, we can utilize 45 separate freshwater streams and rivers. And within an hour’s reach using a chartered float plane, we can fish in over 1000 freshwater lakes, streams and rivers. We can accommodate parties of 1 to 6 anglers per boat/guide.

Whaler’s Cove Lodge starts booking trips 2 years in advance, and blocks can sell out 12-18 months before scheduled trip dates. We have very limited space available at our Lodge, which means we have to turn away dozens and dozens of hopeful visitors every year. Once trip blocks are sold out, they’re sold out (unlike airlines, we do not oversell). If space has been occupied for 18 months and then must unexpectedly be cancelled, it puts us all in a difficult position. We will make every effort to re-book your space, as it is both in our and your best interest, but that does not always happen. As a small family company, we have hearts and really feel for family challenges and personal transitions, but we must also protect our livelihood and that of our employees. The best way to secure your funds and not have to worry about the ‘unexpecteds’ of life is to purchase travelers insurance. A company we’ve heard good things about in the past is Squaremouth. You can visit their website here: www.Squaremouth.com, or call them at 800-240-0369. Whaler’s Cove Lodge is not affiliated with, nor does it benefit from, Squaremouth sales or policies. This suggestion is for your travel protection only.

  • All Deposits are Non-Refundable – For your protection, it’s not a bad idea to look at travelers insurance! Click here to shop.
  • If a cancellation must happen and travelers insurance is not purchased, deposits can be rolled over to the next year, one time. Deposits can be rolled over with no additional fee up to 6 months before scheduled trip dates. Once the 6 month deadline hits, there is a $350 per person re-booking fee. Reservation rates for the newly booked year will apply.
  • If the deposit is not used within the originally booked year or the following year (rolled over), the deposit is forfeited.
  • All other payments, above and beyond the deposit, are refunded up to 120 days prior to arrival.
  • Full Payment Due 120 days prior to first day of trip. Final Payments Are Non-Refundable and Cannot be Rolled Over unless we are able to re-book the vacated space. We will make every effort to re-book your space, as it is both in our and your best interest.
  • There are no refunds due to weather conditions or events beyond our control.
  • We strongly recommend that you purchase travel insurance!! (You may have heard this a few times before…we highly suggest it!)

Killisnoo Building

This new in 2015 five unit building features three beach-front ground level double queen rooms and two second level two bedroom suites each with a living room overlooking the harbor.

Kenasnow Room – Kenasnow is the original name of our island before it became known as Killisnoo Island. The exact Tlingit meaning “has been lost“. This ground floor, single room, one bath, double queen room is appointed with bamboo and slate floors and a private covered beach deck to enjoy your mornings or evenings with friends or loved ones.

Killisnoo Room – Killisnoo (Meaning sheltered harbor or sheltered from the wind) is the Tlingit name for the town that once stood where our lodge is today. This ground floor, double queen room with a private bath is identical to the Kenasnow room (next door).

Kootznahoo Room – Kootznahoo (Fortress of the Bear) is the Tlingit namesake of our local area. The third and identical beach front, ground floor double queen with private bath. These three units (Kenasnow, Killisnoo & Kootznahoo Rooms) are great for 3 couples or 6 guys that want to hang out and enjoy the evenings together away from the lodge.

Knudson Suite – The Knudson Suite is named after the family dairy farm in Hood Bay that served the town of Killisnoo back in the day (late 1800’s). This second level harbor and mountain view suite is accessed from the hillside behind (no stairs). It has two bedrooms, each with a king size bed and a shared bathroom between the two rooms. The unit also boasts a living room with comfortable seating for 4 and a gas fireplace. This is perfect for a small family or 2 couples that want to visit and enjoy Real Alaska with all the amentities!

Kanalku Suite – The Kanalku Suite is on the second level and identical to the Knudson Suite (next door) in every way except that there is a Queen/Twin bunk combo in one of the rooms. It is a local Tlingit name for a bay that is part of the Mitchell Bay system. Kanalku is a very special place that provides sockeye salmon the local smoke houses and has fed the community of Angoon for over 800 years! This 2 bedroom suite has a shared bathroom between the two rooms and a living room with gas fireplace that overlooks Killisnoo Harbor and the mountains of Admiralty Island to the east (including Kanalku Mountain).

Salmon & Trout Building

Rainbow, Cutthroat, Dolley Varden, Pink, Silver, King & Sockeye Rooms
This seven room building houses seven individual rooms for couples and groups of two. Each suite has a private bath and all overlook Killisnoo Harbor and the amazing mountain view to the east. Each room accesses a 110′ x 12′ deck running along the water side of the building and is great for groups as well. End the day in an Adirondack chair with you family or friends!

Bird House Building

Ptarmigan & Hummingbird Rooms
