Kodiak Sportsman’s Lodge is a Kodiak Alaska fishing lodge located on the southeast side of Kodiak Island in Old Harbor, Alaska. The lodge is nestled behind Sitkalidak Island and was rated the number one fishery in protected waters. We have the best Salmon and Halibut fishing in the world…period! A bold statement but it is true. The waters are filthy rich in candlefish, herring and other bait fish which creates a very productive area for trophy Kings, Silvers, Halibut and Ling Cod. Along with our Kodiak Alaska fishing lodge, we own 4 of the 6 sports fishing boats operated in a 30 mile stretch of protected waters. Fishing is only 15 to 30 minutes from the dock on calm waters which are full of wildlife for viewing while fishing!
We are a very remote and private lodge. You can only get here by plane or boat. We fish the straits so there is no long run time and we do not have to fish in open seas. These are protected waters so no need to worry about weather making it an uncomfortable fishing day.
Over the past three years the number of Kings caught have been great, and every year we catch 50+ pound Kings. The peak trophy King season runs from May 1st thorough July 15th, but they’re here all year long. Ten to 22 pound Silvers arrive in early July and are fished in much the same way we fish for Kings. The peak Silver Season is from mid-August into September. Load up your fish boxes with 5 Silvers per day per person! Add that to the rest of your catch and your home freezer will be FULL.
Halibut are available all year, although best from June 1st through mid-September. They are so plentiful that we often get them while trolling in 30 feet of water for King Salmon. The Sitkalidak area has some of Alaska’s best Halibut fishing with all sizes available in shallow (30′ to 140′) waters with very light currents. No deep-water fishing in heavy currents, with 12 to 16oz weights to get to the bottom.
Our area is abundant in bottom fish such as Yellow Eye, Black Rockfish, Bass and the biggest Ling Cod you’ve ever seen. Old Harbor Lodge offers spectacular fishing for fly fishermen and spin anglers as well. Our fresh water creeks start receiving Pink Salmon in late July, Chum Salmon in mid-August and Silver Salmon in late August. Mid-August through the end of September will provide you with more action than you have ever imagined.
We have the best limits in Alaska (per person per day): 2 King Salmon, 2 Halibut, 2 Ling Cod, 5 Silver Salmon, 1 Yellow Eye, 4 Black Sea Bass. If you’ve dreamed of catching that Trophy King Salmon this is the place!
